Pop culture, sex, activism, art, film, social movements, music, sports, etc. Community-building with feminists, humanists, womanists, mujeristas, activists, and other like-minded Nashvillians. Men are welcome! This is a free event.

Reading Group: Feminisms in a Prison Nation (every other Sunday) - Upcoming 2015 dates: October 11th, October 25th

carceral feminismNashville Feminist Collective is interested in the implications of mass incarceration for feminism. As a group, we will be deepening our understanding of carceral feminism. Carceral feminism describes an approach that sees increased policing, prosecution, and imprisonment as the primary “solution” to gender-based violence. The collaboration between the mainstream feminist anti-violence movement and the criminal legal system has supported the unprecedented expansion of the prison system. This reading group will help us as a community learn about and hopefully develop alternatives to carceral feminism. We’ve created a Facebook group open for anyone to join who would like to read and share important articles on this topic: https://www.facebook.com/groups/feminisminaprisonnation.

Queer/Feminist Bookclub (last Monday of every month) - Upcoming 2015 dates: October 26th, November 30th

or this oneThis book club is a new initiative to make create an inclusive feminist space for all LGBTQIA+ identified feminists. We want you to come if you are queer or if you are an ally, so we can discuss queer and feminist books, notions of inclusive feminism, and work to remove harmful identity-policing from our feminist politics. Sponsored in partnership with TNTJ.
